Rev. Melvin L. White, 87, of Cleveland, departed this life on January 29, 2022, at his residence.
He was born on September 18, 1934, in Polk County, Tennessee to Elmer and Mamie (Cavett) White.
Throughout life, Melvin was a dedicated and faithful pastor at several rural churches in Michigan, Indiana, and Tennessee. Along with his pastoral care, he was also a licensed contractor and had a love for the game of baseball that he coached for many years. One of his fondest memories included spending time with his family and friends, who will deeply miss him.
In addition to his parents, Elmer and Mamie White, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Melvene (Ledford) White; brother, Riley White, son, Timothy White, and grandson, Jonathan Donachy.
Left to cherish the many memories include his loving children, Rick (Marla) White, Sharon (Darren) Greer, Vickie (Cliff) Donachy, Randy White, Karen (Greg) Lockwood, and William (Jackie) White; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2022, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Millsaps and Pastor John Cain officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Darren Greer officiating.
Family and friends will gather from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
