Marjorie G. Rice

Marjorie Rice, 97, a resident of Ocoee, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

She was born on December 18, 1926, in Etowah, Tennessee, to the late Gurley and Grace Donaldson Anderson.

Marjorie was a member of Chestuee United Methodist Church.  Throughout life, she enjoyed being outdoors, taking care of her flowers, playing the piano and working jigsaw puzzles.  She also loved her fur baby companion, Bengal. 

In addition to her parents, Gurley and Grace Donaldson Anderson, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Rice; sister, Mildred McNelley; brothers; Harold, John, Jim, and Steve Anderson.

Left to cherish the many memories include her loving children, Karen (Mike) Hammitt, Glenda (Ronnie) Seay of Greeneville, Dinah (Roland) Reynolds, Sharon (Jerry) Bishop all of Cleveland, and Eddie (Sandy) Rice of Ocoee; grandchildren, Jamie Lambert, Lori Moore, Melanie Diminnie, Vivien Richards, Travis Rice, Heath Rice, Ryan Bishop and Jeremy Bishop; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Betsy Powers, Mary McKinney, Sam Anderson, and Stanley Anderson.  Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Family and friends will gather from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Robby Hatcher officiating.

A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens, with her family serving as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank Heather, Harrison, Blake, and David of Hospice of Chattanooga for their exceptional care and compassion that was given over the last two months.  We will be forever grateful to you.
