Marion F. Woody

August 2, 1927 — March 16, 2022

Marion F. Woody, 94, of Benton, departed this life peacefully on March 16, 2022, at his residence with his beloved family at his side.

He was born on August 2, 1927, in Benton, Tennessee to the late Francis and Lizzie Green Woody.

Throughout life, he became affectionately known as “Daddy Rabbit” by his family and friends.  He faithfully served our country with the United States Army and later retired from Hiwassee Land Company after a successful career.

A few of his fondest memories include the many mornings spent in the woods hunting and fishing and the countless hours on the tractor farming.  Above all, being referred to as “The Old Man” by his family, surpasses all that life offered.  He loved his family as they loved him and will be deeply missed until we meet again.

In addition to his parents, Francis and Lizzie Woody, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ruth Spence Woody and brothers J. L. Woody, Chassie Woody, Floyd Woody, Dewey Woody, and Wayne Woody.

Left to cherish the many memories include his son Herman (Corkey) Woody, of Benton; grandchildren, Cheryl (Joey) Gregory, Eric Woody, and Angie Higdon; great grandchildren, Tripp Woody, Karissa Woody, Karington Woody and Gracie Epperson; and sister-in-law, Reba Burgess.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Benton Station Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Ryan Potts officiating.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who helped Marion and our family during their difficult days, especially, Guyetta Cline, Wayne Lawson, Corkey Woody, and his personal chef, Carolyn Gregory.

Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.HigginsFuneral.com.

Arrangements are entrusted to Higgins Funeral Home of Benton.
