Larry Ray Burger Sr., 68, of Charleston, went home to be with Jesus on July 10, 2022, surrounded by his beloved family.
Ray was a loving father and dedicated husband to his faithful wife of 50 years, Virginia Ruth Hooker Burger. His family was his life and he loved getting together regardless of the occasion, just to spend time with them. Some of his favorite things to do was to cook and sing. He was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making people happy with meals he had prepared. In Ray’s earlier years, he sang a lot in church and when he did, God’s presence would fall. Heaven’s choir is sounding sweeter with the addition of his voice. Ray was such a caring and giving man, from giving away most of the harvest from his garden, to making fruit baskets year after year, he was always putting others first. He has touched countless lives over his lifetime and will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Arthur and Lurena Dale Burger; grandson, Corey Ray Burger; grandparents, Manuel and Belvie Jones Burger, and Wilson and Nina Tilley Dale.
Left to cherish the many memories include his devoted wife, Virginia Ruth Hooker Burger; beloved children, Larry Ray (April Lynn) Burger Jr., April Glory Burger (Billy) Guerra, and Mark Samuel (Sandra) Burger; cherished grandchildren, Cody Ray (Chasity) Burger, Tyler Neil (Jade) Burger, Elisha Nichole Guerra, Megan Marie (Raven) Guerra Moore, Shawn Mike Guerra, Kayla Ann Burger, Whitney Sommer Burger, Ryan Samuel Burger, Stephanie Reeder, Brittany (Dustin) Dills, Amanda (Eric) Gentry, and Cortney (Sean) Helms; and ten great-grandchildren, numerous family members, and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home of Benton, with Pastor Edith Blair, Pastor Samuel Burger, and Rev. Anthony Wynn officiating. Interment will follow at Old Ocoee Cemetery with Jeremy Phillips, Stephen Phillips, Joseph Phillips, Cody Burger, Tyler Burger, Ryan Burger, Sean Guerra, Raven Moore, and Paul Cross serving as pallbearers.
Family and friends will gather from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
