J.M. Lowe

April 26, 1937 — October 16, 2022

J.M. Lowe, 85, of Reliance, departed this life peacefully on October 16, 2022.

J.M. was born on April 26, 1937, in Reliance, to the late Miller L. and Grace Kirkland Lowe.  Throughout life, a few of his fondest memories include spending time gardening and cooking in his kitchen, especially his famous gravy and biscuits.  He always cooked breakfast for his family and was a perfectionist when it came to his recipes. One of his greatest joys of life was spending time with his beloved family and friends, to whom he loved dearly.  He was a member of Greasy Creek Baptist Church and will be missed deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, Miller and Grace Lowe, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Lowe, father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Mae Merrell.

Left to cherish the many memories include his beloved wife of 62 years, Minnie Mae Merrell Lowe; cherished sons, Jakey (Melissa) Lowe, and Gary (Tammy) Lowe; grandchildren, Matt (Hollie) Lowe, Kayla (Nathan) McNelley, and Katie Lowe; great-grandchildren, Carter McNelley, and Jordan Lowe; siblings, Shirley (Floyd) Burger; brother-in-law, Fred (Una) Merrell; special neighbor and caregiver, Kelly Bayne.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with Pastor Cody Harris and Rev. Steve Jones officiating.

Family and friends will gather from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2022, at Greasy Creek Cemetery, with Matt Lowe, Nathan McNelley, Clifford Wilcox, Greg Merrell, Terry Satterfield, and Bob Nanney serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearer will be Scotty Price.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude and love to Signature Healthcare for the devoted care and compassion.
