Jerry A. Rogers

November 3, 1943 — February 10, 2022

Jerry A. Rogers, 78, of Benton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2022.

He was a member of Zion Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the New Cemetery and over the years he served on several committees.

Throughout his life he was passionate about the outdoors whether he was farming, hunting, or fishing.  He enjoyed long conversations with his friends, especially his buddies from Bowater Newsprint, where he worked for 38 years.  Jerry was an avid fan of every sport his grandchildren played and was always up for an adventure, whether a trip to Captain D’s, a beach trip with his family, or a trip to bargain shop.  He recently got to check an item off his bucket list: a trip of a lifetime traveling out West.  One of his fondest memories includes sharing stories of his history that will remain with his family for generations.

He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Lena (Bates) Rogers; sister, Mary (Rogers) Cheek; and brother-in-law, Howard Cheek.

Left to cherish the many memories include his beloved wife of 54 years, Linda (Dill) Rogers and their three children, Jody (Kimberly) Rogers, Paul Rogers, and Natalie (Greg) Cross; cherished grandchildren, Lindsey (Lee) Wilson, Sydney (Randy) Taylor, Lily Cross, Drew Rogers, and Luke Cross; great-granddaughter, Linsley Wilson and a great-grandson on the way!; his sister, Faye (Rogers) Marshall; brother-in-law, Rev. Lynn Marshall.  Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of special friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with Pastor Chad Maxwell officiating.  Interment will follow at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Jerry Beckler, Brent Browder, Jeff Calhoun, Austin Fogg, Preston Fogg, Tony Fogg, John Lewis, Mario Longoria, Jody Truelove, and Dylan Whitt serving as pallbearers.

Family and friends will gather from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022, and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
