Jean “Carolyn” Owens, 78, of Cleveland, gained her heavenly wings on Monday, July 18, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
Carolyn was born on May 27, 1944, in Fontana Dam, North Carolina to the late Elizabeth and Richard Owens and she remained a life-long resident of Cleveland, TN.
Ms. Owens was a graduate of Bradley Central High School and played on the Bearettes 1962 State Champions Basketball Team which was coached by the legendary, Jim Smiddy. After high school she attended Tennessee Wesleyan University and graduated with two majors, English and Elementary Education from Tennessee Temple University. Her love of religion lead her to teach Bible History for the Hamilton County School System. She retired after thirty dedicated years, teaching each day at Ooltewah and East Ridge High Schools. Carolyn loved all her students and all the many dogs and cats she had during her lifetime.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth, and Richard Owens, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Edward Owens.
Left to cherish the many memories include, her sister, Patricia Dodd; nephew, Craig Dodd; niece, Lori Dodd (Todd) Cozart and a host of family and friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Greasy Creek Cemetery, with Rev. Robby Hatcher officiating.
