Jimmy Poteet

July 23, 1949 — November 5, 2019

Jimmy Poteet, 70 of Etowah, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

Born in McMinn County, Jimmy was a son of the late Rev. Luther and Pearl Poteet. He was the sixth of their twelve children and received a Christian mountain country upbringing in the Reliance and Delano communities of Polk County. His early employment was at the Delano Hosiery Mill in Delano and Benton Manufacturing in Benton, and later at Economy Rentals in Cleveland.

With no children of his own, Jimmy was a favored uncle to his twenty nieces and nephews as he often behaved as one of them, playing board games, teaching them croquet, giving them birthday parties and more.

Jimmy was very unique and talented and he taught himself to crochet beautiful doilies, afghans, shawls, capes, hats, scarves, etc. He blessed many of his family and friends with gifts of his precious handmade items and also sold many at local craft fairs and through word of mouth.

Ever faithful to God, his Christian beliefs, moral values, and his place of worship, Jimmy was a longtime member of Cambria Baptist Church in Etowah.  He was loyal and loving to his fellow church members and they were very loving and kind to him. They truly showed him Godly love.

Jimmy also often attended special services, revivals and singing at churches all around the region, especially those in Reliance where he had grown up.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Luther Poteet, mother, Pearl Bramlett Poteet, sister, Mary Lou Poteet Chastain and four brothers, Billy Poteet, Ray Poteet, Johnny Poteet and Steve Poteet.

Left to cherish his memory are four brothers, Roy (Robin) Poteet, St Cloud, FL, Rodger (Charlotte) Poteet, Harrison,TN,  Paul Poteet, Trenton, GA and Kenny (Sheryl) Poteet of Helena, MT.

Two sisters, Carolyn Poteet Wilson, Cleveland, and Dianne Poteet, Benton, TN, and sister-in-law, Darlene Poteet, Cleveland, TN.

Jimmy will be cherished and missed by a large family of nieces, nephews, Poteet and Bramlett cousins, and a host of friends, neighbors, fellow church members and co-workers.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Cambria Baptist Church in Etowah, TN with Reverend Matthew Watson officiating. Interment will be held following the service at Delano Community Cemetery in Delano, TN with his nephews serving as pallbearers.
