Deborah Renay Foster Reid was born on December 22, 1951, at Bessemer General Hospital in Bessemer, Alabama, to her parents the late Rev. Olon and Bernice Burnette Foster. She grew up in a loving home dedicated to the Lord alongside seven other siblings. Debbie lived a full life and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 27, 2023, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
As the daughter of a pastor, Debbie moved eight times during her childhood and experienced life in various locations across the country. After graduating high school in Sedro-Woolley, WA in 1970, she moved with her family to Murphy, NC in 1971. It was there that she met and married Bill Reid, son of Crede and Mamie Reid.
Debbie was a homemaker and substitute public school teacher. She served the local church in a variety of ways, including as a Sunday school teacher for many years. One of her favorite volunteer duties was coordinating and leading the annual greening of the church for Christmas. She enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, and loved spending time with her family, whom she counted as some of the most precious blessings of her life. Nothing made her happier than having “all my chicks under one roof.”
In addition to her parents, Rev. Olon A., and Bernice Burnette Foster, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Sarah McCormick, Royce Foster, and James Foster.
Left to cherish the many memories include her loving husband, William H. “Bill” Reid; beloved children, Christopher W. (Cherish) Reid, Adam F. Reid, Angela R. (Alex) Denton; adored grandchildren, Megan (Gavin) Powers, Samantha Reid, Alexander Reid, Alison Denton, and Aaron Denton; sisters, Patricia (Earle) Shroyer, Jo (Daniel) Allen, and Beverly (Lee) Bear; brother, Mike Foster.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with her children presiding. Interment will follow at Benton Memorial Gardens, with Chris Reid, Adam Reid, Alex Denton, Alexander Reid, Gavin Powers, and Coltyn Parks serving as pallbearers.
Family and friends will gather from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
