Burch Everett “Burchie” Godfrey, 83, a resident of Benton, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 1, 2019, at a Chattanooga healthcare facility.
He was the oldest serving deacon at Welcome Valley Baptist Church and also served as church treasurer and church clerk for over fifty years. He was retired from Hardwick Stove after twenty five years as well as Bowater Newsprint after eighteen years. Burchie loved spending time with his family and will be missed by all. He adored his beloved granddaughter, Alexis.
Mr. Godfrey was preceded in death by his parents, R.L. and Carlie Godfrey; siblings, Roy Godfrey, J.L. Godfrey, Herb Godfrey, Gene Godfrey, Paul Godfrey and Leona Rogers. He was also preceded in death by several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-three years, Dianne Rush Godfrey; son, Daniel M. (Tiffany) Godfrey; two beloved grandchildren, Alexis Michelle Godfrey and Ricky Lee Cox; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Godfrey, Louise Godfrey and Betty Godfrey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Welcome Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Carl Haulk and Pastor Lee Ingram officiating. Interment will follow at Old Ocoee Baptist Church Cemetery with Phillip Jones, Wayne Jones, Andy Haulk, Craig Chastain, Robert Cross and Matt Haire serving as pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Welcome Valley Baptist Church and from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Sunday prior to the service at the church.
