Ann Burris

Mary Ann Guinn Burris, 78, of Benton, departed this life peacefully on August 19, 2022, at a local hospital.

She was born on January 1, 1944, in McMinn County to the late Walter M. and Alice Dodson Guinn.  Ms. Ann is a 1962 graduate of Polk County High School and later graduated from Erlanger School of Nursing in 1965.  She retired in 2003 after 35 years of distinguished service with the Tennessee Department of Health.  Ms. Ann was a faithful and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Benton. 

Ann enjoyed her monthly lunches with her classmates – the Polk County Girls, attending UT Vols football and basketball games, and enjoyed the countless memories made with her family.

In addition to her parents, Walter, and Alice Guinn, she was preceded by her beloved husband, Glenn A. Burris; brothers, John Guinn and Wendall Guinn; brother and sister-in-law, Morris and Oneita Guinn; nephew, Steven Guinn.

Left to cherish the many memories include her beloved children, Mark (Bridgett) Burris, Rodney (Carrie) Burris, and Carol (Randy) Yates; grandchildren, Mollie Burris and fiancé, Josh Black, Bennett and Max Burris, Rodney Glenn (Lily) Burris, Tiffany (Chris) Harris, Rachel (Greg) Minardo, Morgan (Josh) Harris, and Madison (Terrance) Raper; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Gracie, Katelynn, and Brilee Harris, Owen and Paxton Minardo, Maelie Burris, and Copper Harris; sister-in-law, Jane Guinn; niece, Amy Bowling; nephews, Matthew Guinn, and Stan Guinn.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home of Benton, with Pastor Scott Linginfelter officiating.  Interment will follow at Benton Memorial Gardens with her family serving as pallbearers.

Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
