Wilma Jean Blankenship

October 19, 1941 — January 31, 2015

Wilma Jean Scroggins Blankenship, 73, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 in a Chattanooga healthcare facility. She was born in Chattanooga but spent the last 37 years in Polk County. She retired from Westvaco after 25+ years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends but especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Blankenship was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Blankenship, Jr.; sisters, Betty Mattox and Joyce Ramsey; step-daughter, Libby Blankenship; parents, Charlie Melvin and Elsie Lockett Scroggins. She is survived by her children: Edward (Denica) Huckeba of Murray County, GA, Sharon (Tim) Garlin of Adairsville, GA, step-daughter, Deborah (Carl) Russell of Benton, TN; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Louis Scroggins of Signal Mountain, TN; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Jimmy Parm officiating. Interment will follow at Cookson Creek Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the funeral home.
