Roy Lee Burris, age 84, of the Linsdale community, passed away Friday evening, February 20,2015 . The son of the late Lake and Allie Eaves Burris, he was a native and lifelong resident of Polk County and a longtime member of Patty Church of Christ. He had retired from Cleveland Chair Company after 44 years of service and was a very proud and active member of the Democratic Party. He was very involved in his community and was instrumental in creating the Linsdale Community Center. He enjoyed fishing, farming and spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Pankey Burris; sister, Lucille Pirkle; and brother, Lafon Burris. He is survived by his son, Kenny Burris and wife Susan of Linsdale; granddaughter, Brooke Burris and Ryan Phelps of Benton; grandson, Blake Burris of Linsdale; and great-granddaughters, Macie, Maggie, and Makenlee Waldrop of Benton. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and good friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 8p.m. Monday, February 23, 2015, from the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Sheriff Joe Guy and Minister Dan Guy officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1p.m. Tuesday, February, 24, 2015 at Benton Memorial Gardens for a committal service. Active pallbearers will be Ryan Phelps, Shane Burris, Tony McAllister, Joe Pankey, Ronnie Lawson, and Zac Burris. Brent Harril, Michael Farner, and Denny Stone will serve as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
