Veta Helen Howard Hale, 96, passed away Sunday, April 12, at a local assisted living facility. She was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Mary Maggie Carden Howard. These two families were early pioneers of Polk County. She was preceded in death by husband: Earl Wafford Hale, brothers; Frank and Warren Howard, Sisters; Anna Burchfiel, Jane Cook and Barbara Hale. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College. She was a very active and dedicated member of Benton Station Baptist Church from childhood; a church that she always loved. She was a teacher in the Polk and Bradley County school systems for many years. One of the tremendous joys of her life was to see her former students go on to be successful and responsible adults. She loved to reconnect and visit with all of her former students. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Organization, Ocoee Eastern Star, Benton Garden Club, and Polk County Historical Society. She and Earl enjoyed many nice travels after retirement. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Benton Station Baptist Church with the Reverend Joel Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Benton Station Baptist Church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Benton Station Baptist Church General fund or Cemetery fund.
